| Description | A positive correlation between tillering capacity and nitrogen content of the straw in the rice plant has been reported consistently. Kumura (1) demonstrated the correlation between nitrogen content of the leaf-blade and tillering. Takahashi, Okajima, Takagi, and Honda (2) indicated that tillering is more closely correlated with the nitrgoen content of the culm than that of the whole straw. Meanwhile, Oshima (3) indicated that soluble nitrogen in the culm is more closely related to tillering than is the protein nitrogen. But, Kiuchi and Ishizaka (4) reported that tillering is correlated with the amount of nitrogen absorbed in a given growth period. |
