| Description | The paper discusses geotechnical techniques and principles, which have been used at McArthur River Mine to assist with the process of design and development of this project. Special emphasis was put in this paper on the use of rock mass classification techniques based on the diamond drill holes data. This data was used for an assessment of the most suitable locations for large underground excavations and for the ground stability assessment of production raises at McArthur River Mine. After selecting the locations for mine excavations, the stability of designed development was evaluated using numerical modelling. The paper, also, includes an example of case study where numerical modelling was performed to evaluate the excavation's ground stability.
