| Description | The world-renowned teacher of theatre, Jacques Lecoq, performs a one-person performance piece as a demonstration of his ideas and theories on the theatre. This performance he calls “Tout Bouge,” everything moves. For Lecoq, the world is a theatre of incessant movement and to be true, the theatre, far from being simply an arena for recitation, must capture this movement complete with all its colour, rhythm and complexity. It is my belief that the theatre of South Africa is a striking example of such a moving theatre, packed full of dynamic physical imagery. Within the limitations of such a short article I hope to demonstrate this in some small way. What follows then is a series of evolving thoughts on the place of the physical image in the South African theatre. Book Name: Theatre and Change in South Africa |
