| Description | For electrochemical energy storage application, three-dimensional (3D) printing offers the following distinctive benefits in comparison to conventional production processes. It sanctions facile free-form fabrication and prototyping of electrode as well as other tools in a customized configuration. It may allow the direct writing of required architectures with precise chemistry, designed shapes, and interconnected porosity. The electrode materials, manufacturing, and complete device production can be enabled. On-chip electrochemical energy storages devices (EESDs) with an optimized thickness in the range of hundreds of nanometer to millimeter may be produced, leading to the improved areal capacitance. Simultaneously, 3D printing provides a simple possibility for the microfabrication of 118asymmetric electrode fingers and encapsulation of miniaturized EESDs. It may also offer cofabrication or direct integration of EESDs and external electronics, thus preventing post steps of device assembly and packaging. 3D printing manufacturing methods, like photopolymerization and material extrusion, are advantageous for EESDs manufacturing via direct fabrication of multimaterials and manageable architectures. At present, the utilization of innovative functional parts in the printing platform is heralding new prospects for next-generation EESDs.
