| Description | The procedure of the dynamic cone penetration test (DPB) has a great similarity with the driving process of a foundation pile. Helas a simple correlation between the results of such a field test and the blow count experienced during pile driving, does not exist. The authors made efforts to establish which correlating factors exist in the two dynamic processes. The object of the study was a prestressed concrete pile installed by means of a diesel hammer type Delmag D 3 6-02 in September 1978 at the site of the RAI-buildings in Amsterdam. Favoring the research was the availability of : – the complete soils information and pile driving data; – a reliable wave equation computer program which fits the performance of a diesel hammer very accurately; – the results of an extensive research program performed in the U.S.A. on standard penetration testing; and – a computer program developed by the IGF based on extended energy-balance formulas.
