| Description | Teaching and learning mathematics online require much communication and interaction between teachers and students that are mediated through the online environment. Educators have a wealth of information provided to them about students and their understanding through the learning management system (LMS). Educators need to use these data to build relationships with students. Some of these relationship-building tools include understanding how to engage students who are never met face-to-face, using local supports, using online tools, tracking data on students via the LMS, and using multiple communication methods. Limitations for when students can expect these interactions from educators should also be set. Additionally, standardized delivery of digital courses often needs adjustment and help to personalize to students' needs. Specific adjustments and methods for feedback are discussed to help further develop the relationships with students throughout an online mathematics course.
