Description	A number of varietal names and new combinations for grasses were cited with the authority Hack. MS., in the first edition of Cheeseman's “Manual of the New Zealand Flora” (1906). There has been some uncertainty whether these names should be attributed to Hackel or to Cheeseman. A comparison of diagnostic descriptions III Hackel's letters to Cheeseman, held at the Auckland Institute and Museum Library, with descriptions in Cheeseman's Manual, confirmed that all names should be attributed to Hackel.
