| Description | With an average precipitation of 250 mm, Iran's central plateau watershed is considered an arid and semi-arid region that frequently encounters lack of water. Consequently this has lead to exploration of options to enhance groundwater resources. Most of the central plateau rivers are seasonal and their floods are infrequent during rainfall seasons, and because of some special geological problems of this region, most of the permanent rivers contain saline water, and are useless as water supplies. These factors result in the shortage of water in the different districts, therefore in this region people take advantage of groundwater from which utilization is continuously increasing. Because of these problems, water spreading in central plateau watershed is considered as a mean of increasing aquifer recharge and stabilizing water supplies. This paper describes water-spreading effects on aquifers of four regions in the central plateau basin. Investigation showed that in the four regions well discharge has increased and the water table levels have increased of water spreading. Book Name: Management of Aquifer Recharge for Sustainability |
