| Description | Detailed numerical modeling using the FLAC v.4 package has been carried out to predict the behavior and failure mechanisms of undermined paste fill at WMC Resources Ltd.'s Junction Mine. Calibration of observed undermined paste fill failure mechanisms at Goldfields (Tasmania) Ltd.'s Henty Gold Mine has been used to develop a modeling methodology and to understand the nature of the failure mechanisms likely to control undermined paste fill at the Junction Mine. Observations of the behavior of undermined paste fill failure mechanisms at the Henty Gold Mine include tensile caving, crushing and slippage due to artificial joints, termed 'cold joints', within the fill mass.
