| Description | The World Trade Organization (WTO) is an international organization specializing in the handling of multilateral trade relations on the basis of reciprocity and mutual benefit. This chapter describes that the influences on China from its participation in the WTO will be made at two levels: the government level and the enterprise level. China's volume of trade with WTO members accounts for about 90 per cent of its total volume of trade in imports and exports. Over 20 years, the ratio of reliance of the development of the Chinese economy upon foreign trade has risen from 9.8 per cent to 35 per cent. After becoming a WTO member, China will be able to benefit from the opening of markets by other countries and regions. The improvement of the international environment will provide Chinese enterprises with even more opportunities to enter the international market and an even wider space for trade and economic cooperation.
