| Description | The remanufacturing process comprises all activities that bring used Âproducts, subassemblies, and parts back to a reusable condition in which they continue to fulfill their function. These processes have initially been used to maintain very expensive machinery and systems such as those in the aviation industry and the military (Guide and Srivastava, 1997). In recent decades, remanufacturing practices have also been adopted for consumer goods in an attempt to reduce the environmental impact of mass consumption on natural resources and to minimize the generation of waste. Furthermore, many players embark on the remanufacturing business for its profitability, since the total effort required to overhaul a returned product is significantly less than that of manufacturing a new product. As larger systems and multiple ownerships enter the equation, the remanufacturing processes encounter higher levels of uncertainty in both demand and supply operations.
