We begin by discussing the historical and philosophical context from which the concept of perezhivanie emerges in Vygotsky's theory, briefly outline its implications and interpretations, and conclude with an examination of its potential theoretical and methodological contribution to SLA research. The chapter also discusses the historical and philosophical context from which the concept of perezhivanie emerges in Vygotsky's theory and briefly outlines its implications and interpretations. It deals with an examination of its potential theoretical and methodological contribution to SLA research. The chapter also outlines two of its contributions to sociocultural theory. First, the sociogenetic nature of human mental development entails that the forms of development that later appear in an individual must first exist in that individual's environment. Second, perezhivanie allows us to more closely examine the reflexive relationship between learning and development and to do so in a holistic manner.
