| Description | This chapter works from interviews with teachers to evolve priorities for understanding and developing good teaching. While faculty teaching development has achieved scale in certain regions, it is taking foundation steps in China and Asia. The pandemic has accelerated the development of this field, and in many respects positioned it as a substrate of institutional growth. This chapter provides important insights into the experience of faculty transiting to fully online teaching as an emergency response to COVID-19 in 2020 at Tsinghua University. The chapter discusses implications of this development, not just for understanding teaching and its qualities but also for the role and contribution of teaching in major research universities in Asia and beyond.
