| Description | Leadership positions in Asia throw up different dimensions and opportunities relative to a home-based role. Fresh challenges for leaders in Asia can emanate from multiple areas, such as the prevalence of expat executives, either in leadership positions or members of teams led by local executives. This introduces dynamics and cross-cultural influences not always experienced in more generic market leadership environments. The chapter presents some case studies with example. The first example is that of John, a finance executive with experience in France, Belgium and the UK, who came to Singapore to be the regional CFO for a UK-based manufacturing company with 13 factories spread across a number of Asian countries and numerous points of sales representation. The second example is that of Claire, a Malaysian national working in Singapore as the Chief Operating Officer of an international financial services company with a considerable number of expatriates in the senior management layer.
