| Description | As it was shown in previous chapters, porous silicon (PSi), due to large specific surface area and high surface reactivity, is a promising material for designing various solid state and optical gas sensors. From general considerations, electrochemical sensors, aimed for operation mainly in a liquid environment for detection metal ions and dissolved toxic substances, also should be the area for PSi application. However, in reality, despite the advantages of electrochemical sensors such as easy preparation, low cost, high sensitivity, simplicity, and high functionality, there are very few works that have been done in this field of chemical sensors. All of these considerations make it particularly worthwhile to review the advantages of PSi-based electrochemical sensors.
