| Description | This chapter will first define the term Peace through Health. It then describes the tools that advocates of Peace Building through Health, the term I prefer, have developed. Finally, I will situate these in the evolution of activities that HATD has pursued since its founding in 2004. This book explores a key question: What are the possible roles of health professionals in a setting of ongoing confrontation such as the Israeli-Palestinian conflict? These questions are addressed here through the lens of the organizations that Healing Across the Divides has funded and worked with. Health professionals working in their professional capacity can contribute to peace building through health. Researchers and policymakers have identified a number of specific tools that organizations have utilized to encourage PtH. They are: strengthening of communities; communication of knowledge; personalizing the enemy; construction of goals in common; non-cooperation and dissent. The chapter concludes with a timeline and milestones of HATD activities since its inception. Book Name: Peace Building through Women's Health |
