| Description | The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) report provides a quite comprehensive cross-country overview of policy-mixes, priorities, current and forthcoming reforms and trends for integrating people with disabilities into the labour market. It recalls the high and rising prevalence of disability in the working age population and the relatively high incidence of severe disability. This chapter points out various ways of addressing the complex issue of disability, among which activation was acknowledged as one of the major instruments for social integration. Activation seems to offer a policy-mix that is likely to improve the situation on both counts. Indeed, as the OECD report notes, while "segregation of the disabled people in special forms of employment is increasingly seen as inappropriate and in need of being replaced by initiatives aimed at integration into the open labour market"; the protected sector remains as important as ever".
