| Description | Foreign direct investments from Western enterprises in Eastern Europe have been gaining much importance — the gains are being exploited by the foreign investors, the local partners, but also by the economies involved. This chapter aims to discuss neither the different motives nor the ways of conducting foreign direct investments nor to analyse the relevant business environment, as much research has already been done in these areas. It also discusses different possibilities of risk management concerning foreign direct investments which are available to foreign investing companies. Risks which can be identified in the process of foreign direct investments can be classified in two major categories, i.e. political risks and economic risks. The chapter deals with possible underlyings of an option or special zerobond and explores the corresponding pay-out-matrix and ways of paying the premium.
