| Description | The use of terroristic violence and repression by states against the own citizens is a common phenomenon. The spread of terroristic violence to society at large involves a two-fold transformation of the state and its relationship to society. A closer look at the nations of the world, however, shows that the phenomenon of state organized terror is far from vanquished. The neglect of the subject of internally directed state terror has been compounded by the fact that although many theoretical insights on state terror have been gained through descriptive studies of individual cases, there have been very few efforts to link the insights together. State organized terror during the middle and late twentieth century has revealed and discredited the dark side of the modern state. The chapter also presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in this book. Book Name: State Organized Terror |
