| Description | Libraries can be the site of gameplay and game creation. In this chapter, we examine the experiences of teen volunteers and a youth services librarian in rural Maryland as they undertook the creation of alternate-reality games (ARGs) based out of a public library. ARGs represent a space for transmedia literacy development and involve using a mix of media and a range of information sources to create an interactive narrative gaming experience. In the ARG development experience described here, the specific games created by this group of teens and their librarian are described, along with some discoveries that could inform future efforts to make the creation of ARGs a reality at other libraries and with other youth.
