| Description | Molecular imprint based solid-phase extraction is increasingly being used for selective extraction of biological and environmental samples. Interest in imprinted polymers is derived from the high selectivities and affinities achievable, and the fact that by the imprinting process these properties may be qualitatively and quantitatively predetermined for a particular analyte, or a class of structural analogues. Hence, imprinted polymers poten tially offer a higher level of sample cleanup than that obtained using conventional extraction materials which has been demonstrated for several systems. This review will discuss recent literature, benefits and limitations of using imprinted polymers in solid-phase extraction appli cations, as well as method development of imprint-based extraction protocols.
