| Description | 29 CFR 1910.1200 is the hazard communication standard, the intent of which is to “ensure that the hazards of all chemicals produced or imported are evaluated and that information concerning their hazards is transmitted to employers and employees” (1910.1200(a)(1)). The keywords here are “hazard” and “chemicals”. In any given workplace, there may be various hazards that should be communicated to employees. Workplace hazards may include environmental problems, process dangers and use of certain pieces of equipment. Though different types of hazards exist and should be communicated to employees and guarded against, the only hazards covered by this standard are those which involve the use of chemicals.
