| Description | Energy assessment has become an important and argued topic in recent years due to climate changes. For this reason, the building industry is crossing a digital transition period. In this context, the development of 3D parametric models as a digital twin is due to the energy assessment of private and public buildings. The purpose of this study is to analyze Building Information Model to Building Energy Model process, with an essential focus on data transfer, which plays a key role to maintain all the information required for energy simulations. Starting from the evaluation of the most used standard exchange formats for energy simulation, this contribution highlights the challenges that occur during the export/import process finding out the lack of data that make the process not error-free. The selected case studies allowed to test the proposed process and analyze the main steps for building energy simulation.
