| Description | The chapter gives information about visible light emitting in lanthanide ions (Ln = Eu, Sm, Tb and Dy) in magnesium silicate host. $Ln^{3+}$ doped forsterite phosphors were synthesized by a solution combustion method. The diffraction patterns of as prepared $Mg_{2}SiO_{4}$ phosphors can be indexed to single orthorhombic phase. The calculated average crystallite was found to be in the range 25-50nm. The $Eu^{3+}$ doped phosphor showed excellent CIE chromaticity co-ordinates (x, y) and CCT values, as a result it was quite useful for display applications. The orange red emission properties and the estimated CIE chromaticity co-ordinates (0.588, 0.386) of $Sm^{3+}$ doped phosphors was very close to NTSC standard value of red emission of this phosphor and CCT was found to be 1756 K.
