| Description | A common mining system used for extraction of pitching thin and moderate thick seams is long pillar mining. The analyses of this mining system have been carried out using the same topics as in the previous chapters: Principal long pillar systems mainly considering drilling-and-reaming (thin seam), cyclic and continuous (medium and thick seams) technologies. Stability of stope-pillar structure analyzed with respect to long and narrow pillars between extraction blocks (rib and crown pillars) and their effect on stability of mined-out area. Strata mechanics discussed in a manner similar to that of sublevel mining, since there is similarity between these two mining methods. Caving mechanics including studies of physical models, since this technique offers visualization of the phenomenon. Book Name: Strata Mechanics in Coal Mining |
