| Description | Proposals may be written for ethics committees in order to receive approval, health services in order to obtain permission or funding bodies in pursuit of a grant. The intended readership will have different concerns, such as the ethical issues raised by the study, the impact on service delivery or the extent to which the proposed study aligns with the objectives of the call for proposals. The structure of a research proposal contains title, summary, introduction, aim and objectives, methods, ethical considerations, timeframe, budget and funding, references, and appendices. The researcher will commit to interviewing a certain number of respondents in the proposal and then describe how they will determine saturation of their data. The sampling strategies are also different and are usually purposeful in that people are consciously and not randomly selected on the basis of their ability to shed light on the phenomenon of interest: criterion sampling, snowball sampling, extreme case sampling, and purposeful random sampling.
