| Description | In order to accurately assess the structure safety of ships undergone fires, a method, based on large eddy simulation of fires and a technique for structure thermodynamic coupling analysis, for analyzing the residual hull strength of ships subject to cabin fire is proposed in this paper. By taking the example of a surface ship, the fire accident in the engine room is simulated and the fire temperature is analyzed. The thermal load on the structure is obtained by using the heat flux at the interface between the two media and the heat conduction, and then the residual load carrying capacity is predicted for the ship hull undergone fire. The obtained results show that the ventilation has a significant influence on the development of fire and also on the temperature distribution; application of heat flux at the interface and the heat conduction is an effective way to obtain the temperature load on the structure; elevated temperature due to fire results in reduction of mechanic performance in the fire zone as well as the redistribution of stress distribution in the cross-section, which eventually lead to a decrease in the load carrying capacity of the hull.
