Description	The fast development of the technology is changing our lives into automatic lives. Such lives are depending on the wireless technology even for their health monitoring. The wireless technology as an integration of wearable and implanted electronic circuits with sensors, actuators and personal digital assistant devices are forming the wireless body area network (WBAN). WBAN is emerging its applications in the medical field by helping the patients to have an immediate observation on their body and real time health parameters from their own locations and those can be transferred to the doctor through any wireless media. The efficient transmission of this real time data and the network reliability greatly depends on energy consumption and harvesting [1]‌. When the multiple nodes are accessing the same link to transfer the data over it, then the data link layer protocol, i.e. medium access control (MAC) protocols [2], are necessary to have the access control by determining which node has the control over the link at the particular time, thereby the energy consumption can be controlled wisely. This paper confines the information regarding the recent research on the MAC protocols for the efficient transmission of the data in the WBAN. Book Name: Intelligent Circuits and Systems
