| Description | Definitions and descriptions of the term ergonomics vary from very broad to very narrow. Broader descriptions of ergonomics take consideration of the total human and include psychological/behavioral issues dealing with sensation, perception, cognition and decision-making in addition to questions related to the body which include issues dealing with anatomy, physiology, kinesiology and biomechanics. This chapter will deal with a narrower view of ergonomics because parts of the broader view are dealt with in other chapters, and because OSHA, as well as safety and health professionals, in general, are oriented towards the narrower view.
