| Description | Enlarging the contemporary: The rise of the curator and indigenous artists explores the consolidation of the figure of the curator in conjunction with the modernisation of exhibition infrastructure and the transformation of the city. I explain how this first curatorial moment was primarily based on a local work related to the new urban subjectivities and local socio-political processes, expanding the limits and narratives of contemporary art. I show how the mechanisms and agents of Amazonian art contributed to the enlarging of the definition of contemporary art, and explain why Andean art is largely marginalised and primarily categorised as 'arte popular'. Chapters 2 and 3 address the same moment of dynamic exploration on the art scene that was triggered by artists and soon after by curators. During this time, neither the museum nor the market played an important role. Book Name: Configuring the New Lima Art Scene |
