| Description | This chapter introduces the applications of the integrated project delivery (IPD) concept, starting with early examples and continuing with more recent developments within the Sutter Health organization. It devotes a major section to a description of the conditions and methods that are needed for IPD to be implemented and managed successfully. The IPD concept has proven to be highly successful since its development in the early 2000s. The Westbrook Air Conditioning and Plumbing project in Orlando is described as an early example of the IPD method, based on the creative modification of a small design-build project and resulting in significant time and cost savings. The IPD contracting method has been steadily gaining traction in the construction industry as the need for supply chain collaboration continues to increase. The Westbrook IPD project is presented in this chapter as a historical reference to an early adoption of the collaborative approaches used in IPD projects.
