| Description | Binary, or base-two, numbers are extremely important in computer science because they are used in designing computers. Computer scientists also use octal and hexadecimal numbers, which are closely related to binary numbers. Numbers that use a two as a base are called either base-two numbers or binary numbers. The coefficients of the powers of two ranges from 0 to 1. In other words, binary numbers have the digits 1 and 0. Binary numbers are very important in computer science because these are the numbers that computers actually use. In a lot of ways binary numbers are rather difficult to work with so computer scientists would prefer to be able to work with other number systems that are easier for a human to understand. It turns out that either octal or hexadecimal numbers are the best number systems for computer scientists to work with. Book Name: Discrete Mathematics for Computer Science |
