| Description | This chapter discusses the use of deep learning systems has contributed to the development of effective facial recognition systems. Facial recognition has been at the forefront of technological advancements in the fields of image processing and computer vision. Deep learning is a representation learning technique i.e., there are multiple levels of nonlinear modules which are used to transform the representation at one level into a representation at another, more abstract level. The neurons present in every layer of the network apply a nonlinear function to the data received from the previous layer to produce a value that is passed on to the next set of neurons. The use of deep learning techniques has shown to provide a high degree of accuracy of tasks in a number of domains, ranging from finance, medicine, and image analysis to even tasks related to understanding text and speech.
