| Description | Cloud Computing is today's dominant computing paradigm which companies, governments and individuals rely upon to meet their computation, storage and communication needs. Applications living in the Cloud pose several new challenges to networks, not only due to their needs for transferring massive amounts of data to and from the data centers where the Cloud infrastructure is deployed, but mostly due to the elasticity and dynamics of the services being offered. In this section we address the most relevant research work in the area of Cloud-Centric Networking, their advantages and shortcomings, as well as potential leads on new innovations. We define Cloud-Centric Networking (CCN) as the paradigm by which all network communications occur in the Cloud, encompassing a very broad list of use cases from Web and Mobile Applications Backend to Network Function Virtualization.
