| Description | Plant pathogenic microbes such as fungi, bacteria, and viruses belong to the same groups as the pathogens infecting human beings and animals (Fig. 2.1). None of the plant pathogens can infect humans or animals. However, the insect-transmitted propagative plant viruses can cause diseases both in plants and in their vectors. The plant pathogens are characterized by their ability to grow and multiply in the affected plants, resulting in characteristic symptoms, and to spread from diseased plants to healthy ones, causing new infections.
