| Description | This chapter addresses the need for educating engineers in universal and accessible design by providing approaches for meeting this challenge. After introducing the problem, multiple definitions for universal and accessible design are provided, which show clear distinctions, and also synergies, between the two. This is followed by a review of considerations for medical devices and an overview of the educational challenges. A number of approaches for integrating educational material on universal and accessible design into the engineering curriculum are then reported. This includes the development of core educational materials, student design projects, and adding universal and accessible design content into other engineering courses.
