Description	This chapter describes developmental changes in humans' prosocial thoughts and actions. It examines the questions are: How do helping and other aspects of prosocial behavior change as humans mature? What processes are responsible for the developmental changes that influence helping and altruistic behaviors? How do these processes affect the behaviors of adults? The chapter discusses how people change with regard to what motivates them to help and how they make decisions about when and why they should help. It explores the processes that are believed to be responsible for developmental changes in helping. The chapter considers prosocial actions among elderly people and how developmental processes produce differences in the ways mature men and women provide help to others. It describes developmental trends in prosocial behavior across the life span, examining general changes that occur throughout adulthood, and also explores male-female differences in helping.
