| Description | Organic molecular and polymeric materials that display interesting nonlinear optical properties have received a great deal of attention for optical communication and integrated optics. The absorption spectra of polymer films before and after corona poling were measured with UV/Visible spectrophotometer in the wavelength range of 200—800 nm. The static field aligns the dipoles in the direction of the poling field, which leads to a change in the intensity of the absorption spectrum, i.e., to dichroism. The relationship between hyperpolarizability and nonlinear optical coefficients were represented by the oriented gas description. The measured nonlinear optical coefficients were compared with the theoretical value. In order to control the phase-matching condition using birefringence of polymer the refractive index of drawing direction should be larger than that of poling direction.
