| Description | A Michelson interferometric fiber-optic sensor was mounted on the surface of unidirectional CFRP specimens. Both the optical interference signal and strain were recorded when specimens were impacted. The frequency characteristics of the interference signal were analyzed by FFT. The analytical results were compared to the frequency characteristics predicted from strain speed. When specimen being damaged, the interference signal recorded before and after the peak of strain and in unloading had wider frequency characteristics than that predicted. The discrepancy in frequency characteristics of the interference signal is attributed to vibration arising from damage events. Book Name: Design and Manufacturing of Composites |
