Description	The Software Engineering Institute (SEI) mission is to provide leadership in advancing the state of the practice of software engineering to improve the quality of systems that depend on software. The SEI accomplishes this mission by promoting the evolution of software engineering from an ad hoc, labor-intensive activity to a discipline that is well managed and supported by technology.” Since the key process areas reflect field observations of processes that have helped software developers in the past, they are of interest to virtually all software developers. One of the first goals of implementing the Capability Maturity Model (CMM) is to achieve repeatability. The CMM also places a high value on efficiency: “Higher maturity level organizations have increased process efficiency.” The CMM states that it leaves the details of implementing process and technology up to the implementers.
