| Description | Contemporary police practice advocates the relevance of proactive policing activities. These reforms emphasize on self-initiated tasks during unassigned patrol time and directed activities based on investigator review of crime analysis and problem identification. This chapter focuses on the confluence of two major developments in how both practitioners and academicians view policing. The first being Problem-Oriented Policing (POP) and the other with a broader philosophy including POP, known as Community-Oriented Policing (COP). It further discusses several applications of geo-spatial techniques to deter, detect, and respond to crime occurrence through efficient crime scheduling and time management strategies, working in consonance with the policing departments of Ajmer City. The study puts forth several underlying drivers of crime occurrence and increase. Geo-spatial techniques have been used to identify crime-prone zones through crime mapping with probability of occurrence based on past crime incidences locations with changing urban profile of the city. Crime mapping and investigation has been substantially exemplified in the Dargah region, which is a world famous pilgrim centrer. This section advocates that the use of GIS techniques with a significant geodata base helps incurbing crime, and facilitates better policing and patrolling in the city.
