Developing ecofeminist corporeality

Description	This chapter outlines one of the main elements of ecofeminist philosophy: mounting a challenge to interrelated sets of dualisms which support systems of subordination not only of nature but of all 'othered' groups and the material body itself. Ecofeminists such as Plumwood and Warren have shown how the body is devalued in opposition to the mind, because the body is aligned with women and nature in the binary system that privileges reason and masculinity. However, there seemingly a reluctance by ecofeminists to engage with and realize the full potential of a focus on the body to subvert and disrupt the 'dead matter of the Cartesian world view'. The ecofeminist project is to claim that feminism and environmentalism are inherently connected through an insistence that environmental issues require feminist analysis. The aim of this chapter is to argue that ecofeminism has to engage with corporeality, and specifically with writing the body, to promote reflexive, emotional and affective engagements with nature.
