| Description | Storying the outdoors invites teachers and children to engage, connect and build relationships with places out of doors. Stories can connect people and places and so offer creative possibilities to stimulate children's engagement with the outdoors. A place responsive approach makes outdoor places come alive – they become stories of placefulness. Personal stories emerge from direct observation and embodied encounters. The study of dragons can be worth pursuing to create place responsive stories that engage and excite both children and teachers. One school has used tales of these mythical creatures to guide their explorations of the Welsh landscape around the Brecon Beacons. The children can be encouraged to place them in the landscape and can record their miniature tales or storied journeys around different sites using photographs, videos and book creator apps. One group of eight year olds enjoyed travelling around their school grounds looking for potential locations for their eyes. Book Name: Teaching Outdoors Creatively |
