| Description | The 21st century has brought with it a higher sensibility towards accessibility issues related to the media. Hence, audiovisual translation modes such as audio description (AD) for blind people and people with visual impairments have developed rapidly, and so has the study of AD. However, humour – one key aspect of media entertainment – remains almost unexplored, both qualitatively and quantitatively, in the field of AD. In this chapter an approach to the AD of humour will be provided, intending to outline its distinguishing features and requirements. Given the heterogeneity of blind people and people with visual impairments, with many different profiles and degrees of vision loss, what follows has been written from the standpoint of those individuals who are totally blind.
