| Description | There are two main orientations to the literature which have evolved related to emergency psychiatry. On the one hand, the material relates to issues particularly relevant to the organization: administrative, disposition decision making, types of treatment such as crisis intervention and medications, legal and ethical issues, training, outcome measures, research, preparing for or assisting in a disaster, and background material on emergency care in general. On the other hand, there is literature focused on patient identification and management: comprehensive overviews, descriptive and epidemiological pieces, focus upon the overlap between medicine and psychiatry and particular presentations of symptoms or characteristics such as the alcoholic, the chronic, the violent, the abused, the grieving, the elderly, the suicidal, etc. Therefore this bibliography will provide two main headings: first organizational issues and then patient presentations. A brief introductory paragraph will introduce each section for further clarification. Book Name: Handbook of Emergency Psychiatry for Clinical Administrators |
