| Description | India's new Act East policy unveiled during the 25th Summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in Naypyidaw, Myanmar in November 2014 signalled a change of vision and strategies from its previous Look East policy, which was aimed at improving India's economic and strategic ties with Southeast Asia. The policy is a clear manifestation of the aggressive pursuance of neoliberal policies across India's Northeast. The intent, decision-making processes and implications of the policy led to much concerns across the region. The massive infrastructure push which is financed by the international financial institutions in implementing the policy and subsequent targeting of peoples' land and natural resources undermined the indigenous peoples' rights and environmental sustainability. Militarism and undemocratic nature of the state and corporate bodies have intensified the targeting of peoples' land and resources. A clear rethinking on the relevance and implications of the Act East policy on the indigenous peoples of India's Northeast is highly critical. Book Name: Northeast India and India's Act East Policy |
