| Description | The effect of material composition and backfill geometry on the strengths of cemented backfills, used in South African gold mines, has been determined. The results of the investigation on materials highlight the importance of the backfill size distribution, the cement type and -content and the water/solids ratio. These findings were incorporated into an empirical model, which allows the prediction of fill material strengths. The initial strengths of samples of differing width/height ratio are independent of the sample geometry. Cemented backfills are significantly stiffer at high stresses, than are their uncemented counterparts. Book Name: Innovations in Mining Backfill Technology |
