| Description | The post-partition development of Islamic political thought in Pakistan had its origins in the revival of Islamic polity on the Indian subcontinent near the end of the 19th century. It also was at the heart of the struggle for Muslim homeland that used the overarching ideology of two-nation theory as justification for its demand. The idea that Muslims were a distinct community having its own religion and customs had emanated from the works of political philosophers, theologians, and reformists like Iqbal and Mawdudi. While Iqbal's ideas rejuvenated the quest of a separate state for Muslims, the manifestation of which – though in truncated form – is present-day Pakistan, Abul Ala's writings on parallel provided an ideological base to Islamic revivalism Pakistan later witnessed making Jamaat-e-Islami the vanguard of Islamic revolution in the future independent state. Several waves of Islamization of the country, as well as the economy, emerged mostly as a desperate remedy capitulating to demands from political Islamists and were hence blemished with dualism and half-heartedness. The steps taken by the government to abolish interest and Islamize the economy were both spotty and uneven; therefore, their implementation is still far off. Nevertheless, some serious initiatives from the past have blossomed into a magnanimous Shari'ah-compliant finance sector, which has not only spurred hopes for full Islamization of the economy in the future, but is a glad tiding for the Islamic revivalist movement of the country, as well.
