| Description | In Meisner relationship work, actors are asked to come up with a specified, salient word or phrase that “lights them up” in connection to their partner. “The Word” gives actors a deepened cue/image that connects them to a high-stakes sense of the relationship. From my perspective, there was a concern that the Chekhov work was being subsumed by the Meisner work and not recognized as a fully viable technique in and of itself. Activities work in Meisner is one of the most important building blocks of the technique. Multiple aspects of the Chekhov work are explored and applied through activity. Meisner Impediment Work can be specified and brought to full physical and psychological life through applying Chekhov- and Laban-based vocabulary as actors translate their research into actuated physical form.
