| Description | Womanism and feminism both began out of a desire for equity and better treatment in society for people other than those who are male-identified. Over time, the ideologies shifted and created new and deeper spaces for women. As women began to argue for the right to education as early as the 1670s, other rights were soon demanded from voting rights to equal pay and more (Freedman, 2007). Thus, feminism became a vehicle for women to garner equal footing in a society that favored men. In this chapter, we aim to outline a brief history of key feminisms and womanisms including modern feminism, cyborg-feminism, Cyberfeminism, technofeminism, Black feminism, womanism, and technowomanism.
